Built in 1911 for the University College of the South West and later the University of Exeter's law school, the Bradninch Place building is now Exeter Phoenix, an arts centre more used to bands, film and theatre than sound system nights. Underground Showground's Halloween edition puts Mandidextrous at the top: the Bristol DJ spent two decades on the free party circuit and ran the Amen4Tekno label before moving into drum and bass as a RAM Records mentee, coining the four to the floor style they call speed bass. Brothers Ryan and Scott Wild, who produce as Phibes, add party jungle with a Jungle Cakes pedigree, and their Born On Road EP Third Dimension once held four places in the D&B top ten at the same time; Raybay is also billed. The auditorium holds around 450 standing; doors are 9:15pm, last entry 11pm, tickets from £25, 18+ only. Exeter Central station is a few minutes' walk.
