The Vault Nightclub

Built around 1900 as a banking hall, the stone fronted Norwich Union Building at 39 Poole Hill is Grade II listed and has housed a string of bars and clubs, Bartonka and The Winchester among them, before reopening as a club and live space. Its upper rooms tend to carry their own programmes rather than act as overspill for the main floor. Dub Lab is the drum and bass regular, putting Pola & Bryson and Emily Makis on Friday sessions and pulling in Macky Gee for bigger dates. Beyond the bass nights the promoter-led calendar runs through jungle, breaks, garage, house, techno and indie, so the crowd changes from week to week. The building is marketed for up to 700, with the largest room around 350. Sold out nights get hot and tightly packed, which makes the smaller upstairs spaces a useful breather.
