The Old Fire Station
28-36 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8AD
Bournemouth's Central Fire Station was built around 1902 to a design by borough surveyor F W Lacey, and the red brick building on Holdenhurst Road still wears its corner turret, cupola and weather vane. Since 1995 it has been the Students' Union nightclub and gig venue for Bournemouth University, though most club nights are open to the public. Inside, the main room takes up to 800 in front of a large stage, the upstairs Loft around 400 and the Engine Room about 150. Bass bookings lean towards sound system culture and heritage rave, from Channel One Sound System and Born on Road's jungle sessions to Religion's Bonkers hardcore daytimers, and the long-running Enter & Drumfunk crew has held D&B nights here too. Bring photo ID, as Challenge 25 applies and the SU runs a zero tolerance drugs policy; foam earplugs are sold at the bar, and Bournemouth station is under half a mile away.
The Old Fire Station has 2 upcoming drum & bass event(s) on DNBRAVE.
