Sota is Tom Southon, a jump up drum and bass producer from Horsham, West Sussex, now based in Bristol, and one of the names most closely tied to the jump up revival that began around 2019. A drummer with a rock and metal background, he pairs that weight with the bright synths and melody of early 2010s D&B. Realise was the breakthrough, followed by Machete, later remixed by A.M.C, Mesmer, Pray For Me, Sientelo with Circadian and The Gang with Eksman, several of them now past millions of streams. He won Best Newcomer at the 2023 Drum&BassArena Awards, sold out his State of the Art UK tour in 2024 finishing at XOYO in London, and has played Worried About Henry at Printworks and Warehouse Project and Boomtown back to back with Simula.
