Foul Play formed in Northampton in 1991 as Steve Bradshaw, John Morrow and Steve Gurley, who left in 1994. Releasing first on their own Oblivion Records and then on Moving Shadow and its Section 5 offshoot, later Panik, they became known for uplifting rave melodies set over increasingly intricate breakbeats. The Vol 1 and Vol 2 EPs (1992), Finest Illusion and Open Your Mind (1993), Vol 4 (1994), Being With You / Music Is The Key, the album Suspected (1995) and Stepper / Total Control are all landmarks of the era. Steve Bradshaw died in 1998, and Morrow carried on as Foul Play Productions with Neil Shepherd and vocalist Shereen Ingram.
