DJ SS
Genres: Jungle, Drum & Bass, Breakbeat
Leroy Small started out in Leicester as a hip hop and rare groove selector called Scratchen Stein, a name later trimmed to SS. At the turn of the nineties he co-founded Formation Records, and with his partner Eidris he also ran the Total Kaos parties in the city. Formation went on to spin off more than 30 sublabels and, between roughly 1991 and 1994, was one of the busiest homes for breakbeat hardcore and early jungle, putting out The Psycho EP, the Colour Series, Rhythm For Reasons and Breakbeat Pressure. The label gave early breaks to Tango, John B and Twisted Individual. His own signature record is The Lighter from 1995, later reworked as a Bladerunner remix. Three decades on he remains a working DJ on jungle heritage and old school bills, frequently paired with MC Toddlah, with sets that lean on the Formation catalogue and the hardcore to jungle period it documented.
DJ SS has 8 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
