DJ Hype
Genres: Jungle, Jump-Up
Kevin Ford, better known as DJ Hype, was born in London in 1968 and rose through the ranks of the early rave scene to become one of drum and bass musics most commanding figures behind the decks. A DJ whose reputation was built on relentless energy and flawless mixing, Hype cut his teeth on the pirate radio stations and warehouse parties of the late 1980s before establishing himself as a fixture of the jungle explosion that followed. In 1994 he founded Ganja Records, which quickly became a home for heavyweight dancefloor anthems. Tracks like "Shot in the Dark" and "Peace, Love and Unity" (featuring MC Fats) became essential selections, while the label launched the careers of artists including DJ Zinc, whose "Super Sharp Shooter" became one of the defining tracks of the era. Alongside Zinc and Pascal, Hype formed the Ganja Kru and later launched True Playaz in 1996, expanding his empire with a roster that would come to include DJ Hazard, Taxman and Sub Zero. Hype is renowned as one of the most electrifying live DJs in the game -- a selector whose sets are built on precision, power and an instinct for when to detonate a crowd. His Playaz brand has grown into one of the longest-running event series in drum and bass, packing out venues across the UK for decades. Few artists have maintained such a dominant presence on the dancefloor for as long as DJ Hype.
DJ Hype has 2 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
