Bou
Genres: Jump-Up
Mohamed Amine Bouguenna, known professionally as Bou, has one of the most remarkable origin stories in modern drum and bass. Born in Algeria, his family fled the country during the Algerian Civil War when he was just five years old, eventually settling in Manchester after time in France and Ashford, Kent. Inspired after discovering jump-up on SoundCloud, he played his first set in 2014 at the age of 17 and released his debut single "Movements" on Clawhammer Recordz the following year. His unique blend of jump-up grit and rolling basslines quickly set him apart in a crowded field. His trajectory went stratospheric when he linked up with Chase and Status for "Baddadan" -- a track featuring IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga, and Takura that peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart, introducing his sound to millions beyond the drum and bass bubble. Alongside earlier releases like "Closer" with Slay and his feature on Bru-C's "Streetside," Bou demonstrated an ability to craft crossover hits without losing the raw energy that made the underground fall in love with him. A practicing Muslim and a proud representative of Manchesters diverse music scene, Bou has become one of the most exciting artists in contemporary drum and bass. His sets are high-energy showcases that blend the dancefloor chaos of jump-up with the deeper, rolling textures that have become his signature. From club nights to headline festival slots, Bou continues to prove that drum and bass is a genre without boundaries -- in sound, in culture, and in who gets to shape its future.
Bou has 3 upcoming drum & bass event(s) listed on DNBRAVE.
